President Tinubu hailed for appointing no nonsense officer, Gen. Shaibu as Army Chief

Comrade Usman Okai Austin has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for choosing General Waidi Shaibu as Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, tagging him as “a no-nonsense officer who will not fail in his assignment.”

In a statement issued to the media, Okai praised General Shaibu’s outstanding track record as Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), where he successfully led major counterinsurgency operations in the Northeast.

“Over the past three decades, General Shaibu has distinguished himself as one of the Nigerian Army’s most experienced, disciplined, and intellectually grounded officers,” Okai said.

He further described the appointment as “a square peg in a square hole,” emphasising that it demonstrates President Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening the Armed Forces’ leadership structure.

Okai called on Nigerians and all security agencies to extend full cooperation to the new Army Chief in the joint effort to combat insecurity.

He noted that safeguarding national security “cannot be the sole responsibility of one institution,” underscoring the importance of synergy among all components of the nation’s security architecture.

He also commended the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. Tosin Ajaye, along with the leadership of the Navy and Air Force, stressing that “the time to address the nation’s insecurity is now,” provided there is strong collaboration from all stakeholders, including the public.

Okai concluded by urging citizens to support the Armed Forces and other security agencies in their collective mission to restore peace and stability across Nigeria.
