Federal Govt hands over modified Armoured Vehicles to IGP to boost Police capacity

The Federal Government has strengthened the operational capacity of the Nigeria Police Force with the delivery of seven upgraded Light Tactical Armoured Vehicles (LTAVs), aimed at improving national security and protecting citizens.

The vehicles were officially handed over by the Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam, to the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, during a ceremony at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.

Speaking at the event, Gaidam noted that the initiative demonstrates a shared resolve to equip the police with the tools needed to effectively tackle security challenges and uphold law and order across the country.

“Today’s event marks a significant milestone. The security vehicles we are handing over to the Nigeria Police Force stand as a testament to the relentless commitment of our Ministry to bolster national security.

“It is with pride that I present to you seven (7) state-of-the-art Modified Light Tactical Armoured Vehicles (LTAV), procured from our 2024 operational budget. We believe these vehicles will significantly enhance operational efficiency, ensuring our officers can perform their duties more safely and effectively.

“One noteworthy aspect of these vehicles is their design, which incorporates local content. This means they are tailored for ease of maintenance within Nigeria, unlike many imported security vehicles that often struggle with durability due to our unique weather conditions and terrain. This local content design ensures resilience, sustainability, and cost-effectivenes,” Gaidam said.

The Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to the welfare and security of the Nigeria Police Force, emphasizing that the administration of President Bola Tinubu prioritises their support.

“We remain dedicated to equipping our police personnel with the resources they need to continue their relentless service in safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians,” he stated.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Anuma Ogbonnaya Nnia, described the procurement and delivery of the Light Tactical Armoured Vehicles (LTAVs) as a significant milestone in the ministry’s efforts to modernize police operations.

He said the initiative is part of a broader strategy to address emerging security threats with advanced tools and infrastructure.

Dr. Nnia added that the vehicles represent the Federal Government’s strong resolve to enhance the operational readiness of the police, serving not only as protective assets for officers but also as vital instruments in defending the public.

Receiving the vehicles, Inspector General of Police Olukayode Egbetokun expressed appreciation for the continued support, noting that this was not the first instance of such critical interventions from the ministry.

He commended the government’s sustained investment in boosting the capacity of the Nigeria Police Force.

He said, “We are receiving this critical asset at a time it is most needed and surely it will play a significant role in enhancing our equipment capability and boosting our anti-crime efforts, and will be deployed where they will be needed.”
