You’re a roaming Politician who lacks clear path, no platform ahead of 2027– Lere Olayimka slams Peter Obi
Lere Olayinka, spokesperson for the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken aim at Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, accusing him of seeking media attention instead of majoring on his political future.
In a statement, Olayinka dismissed Obi’s recent remarks about the poor condition of public schools in Abuja, following the former governor’s visit to a primary school in Kuje. Obi had described the state of the facility as a “national disgrace.”
Responding to the comments, Olayinka insisted the FCTA under Wike is actively addressing educational infrastructure challenges through measurable development efforts not what he termed the “beer parlour-style development” allegedly practiced during Obi’s tenure as Anambra State governor.
According to Olayinka, renovation work is ongoing at 73 schools across all six area councils of the FCT, with 21 projects already completed.
He added that a total of 102 contracts have been awarded for school upgrades as part of the administration’s commitment to improving education in the capital.
The FCT minister’s aide went further, challenging Obi to account for his own track record in education while in office.
He questioned how many schools Obi built or rehabilitated during his eight years as governor, accusing him of stashing public funds in banks instead of investing in essential infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, and roads. Olayinka claimed Anambra State still bears the consequences of what he called Obi’s “underperformance.”
He also took a swipe at Obi’s repeated claims of being able to transform Nigeria within four years, arguing that the former governor failed to achieve such results in Anambra over eight years.
Mocking Obi as an “internally displaced politician” who lacks a clear path ahead of the 2027 elections, Olayinka accused him of relying on media appearances to stay relevant.
He questioned under which party Obi intends to contest in the next election cycle, sarcastically suggesting that mere claims of personal modesty such as owning “one pair of shoes and one wristwatch” would not be enough to secure another presidential ticket.
