Suspected fraudster arrested for recruiting applicants into fake Police Academy

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a suspected fraudster, Samson Olamilekan Owolade, for allegedly running a fake admission syndicate targeting the Nigeria Police Academy (POLAC) in Wudil, Kano.

Owolade, a native of Ipogun in Akure, was apprehended on Thursday after police received intelligence about a growing scam involving fraudulent admission offers.

The suspect reportedly used social media and other online platforms to dupe aspiring cadets.

According to police investigations, Owolade created and managed a WhatsApp group called “NPA RC12 Guide and Updates,” which had over 370 members.

At least 100 unsuspecting applicants are believed to have fallen victim to the scam. He also operated a Facebook page, “POLAC UPDATES GROUP,” used to spread false information about the academy.

Operatives from the Cybercrime Unit quickly tracked and arrested Owolade. During a preliminary investigation, police recovered several mobile phones, laptops, internet routers, and SIM cards allegedly used to carry out the fraud.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, confirmed the arrest and stated that Owolade has already made a confessional statement.

He will be transferred to the Nigeria Police Academy for further investigation and prosecution. Efforts are also underway to track down other members of his fraudulent network.

Ayanlade warned the public, especially parents and prospective candidates, to disregard unofficial sources or individuals promising admission.

He emphasised that admission into the Nigeria Police Academy is strictly merit-based and processed only through official channels.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the integrity of its institutions and the aspirations of young Nigerians.
