Details of encounter between NLC President Ajaero’ and Nigerian Police Force revealed
New details have surfaced regarding the recent meeting between Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), and the police.
Ajaero was questioned as part of an ongoing investigation related to a protester from the EndBadGovernanceInNigeria movement.
The police had summoned Ajaero, accusing him of involvement in terrorism financing, cybercrime, subversion, criminal conspiracy, and treasonable felony.
On Thursday, Ajaero arrived at the police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) command in Guzape around 10:20 am, accompanied by a group of lawyers led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Femi Falana. Less than two hours later, Ajaero and his legal team exited the premises.
A member of Ajaero’s legal team informed Daily Post that the police found no incriminating evidence against the NLC President.
The lawyer who wished to be anonymous said: “It was a very friendly interaction, they summoned him to find out if he was in the know of somebody they were investigating.
“The person was one of the protesters and they wanted to know if he was one of the tenants of Labour House, he had a bookshop about six years ago.
“Even there we enjoined them to release all the protesters or charge them to court.
“Ajaero has no business with the arrest of anybody. We told them that the Labour House is on the 10th floor and the person they arrested is on the second floor.
“The person’s bookshop they came to ransack is on the second floor, so, Ajaero has nothing to do with being invited by the police.
“We told them that they should have just placed a call instead of writing to him and making it look serious.”
