Police operatives invade Amotekun Offices, arrest 25 personnel
Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT) on Wednesday conducted coordinated raids on the offices of the Osun State Amotekun Corps in Ife Central Local Government Area and the Head Office Annexe in Osogbo.
The operation, sources say, is linked to the September 30, 2025 attack in Akinlalu, Ife North Local Government Area, which left seven people dead.
An Amotekun insider, who spoke to DAILY POST on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the IRT personnel from Abuja stormed both locations and apprehended several operatives.
According to the source, “On Wednesday, we gathered that Osun Amotekun offices in Ife Central Local Government Area and the Head Office Annexe, Osogbo, were raided by Nigeria Police IRT personnel from Abuja. In Osogbo, they arrested twenty Amotekun personnel on duty, and in Ife Central Local Government Area, they arrested five personnel.”
In a subsequent update, the Osun State Police Command announced that five suspects had been taken into custody in connection with the Akinlalu killings.
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan, in a statement issued through the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed that police investigations indicate the attackers were members of the Amotekun Corps.
He said, “Investigation carried out by the Police revealed that the attackers are members of the Amotekun Corps, and individuals were mentioned to have masterminded the attack, which victims and witnesses of the attack said they can identify if seen. Meanwhile, five suspects have been arrested in connection with the case; efforts are on top gear to arrest other suspects at large.”
Gotan further revealed that the Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Isaac Omoyele, was invited to clarify his involvement in the incident but failed to honour the invitation.
According to him, Omoyele later claimed he was attacked by unknown gunmen wearing masks — a statement which, the police said, was false and intended to “conceal the truth and derail the course of justice for the victims.”
The police statement reads: “The Commander of Amotekun Corps has been invited to clarify his role in the entire episode of the attack. Meanwhile, he has refused to honour the invitation, and efforts made to reach him on phone proved abortive as his phone has been switched off, only for him to come on social media on 6th October, 2025, and put up a claim of being attacked by unknown armed men wearing masks, which preliminary enquiry reveals to be a figment of his own imagination aimed at concealing the truth and derailing the course of justice for the victims.”
The Police Command also confirmed that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the IRT under the Force Intelligence Department (FID) to take over the investigation.
While urging the public to disregard any “unsubstantiated claim” surrounding the case, the Command assured that it remains committed to maintaining peace and order across Osun Stat
