IGP Tunji Disu approves promotion of nearly 18,000 junior police officers nationwide

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the promotion of 17,952 junior officers of the Nigeria Police Force in a move aimed at improving personnel welfare, boosting morale, and rewarding outstanding service.

The promotion exercise, which cuts across police commands and formations nationwide, affects officers in the ranks of Constable, Corporal and Sergeant.

According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, 165 Sergeants were elevated to the rank of Inspector, 73 Corporals were promoted to Sergeant, while 17,714 Constables advanced to the rank of Corporal.

The police chief described regular promotion as a key component of the Force’s human resource management policy, noting that career advancement serves as an important incentive for officers to remain committed to their constitutional responsibilities.

He said the promotion of deserving personnel reflects the leadership’s commitment to merit-based recognition, career development and the overall growth of the institution.

Congratulating the newly promoted officers, IGP Disu urged them to regard their elevation as a call to greater responsibility and professionalism. He charged them to remain disciplined and dedicated to service while upholding the values of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Inspector-General further encouraged the officers to carry out their duties with integrity, respect for human rights and adherence to the rule of law.

The statement added that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to rewarding hard work, promoting excellence and strengthening its operational capacity in line with global policing standards.
