With Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election drawing closer, major political parties have begun unveiling their candidates following the conclusion of primary elections and consensus nomination processes across the country.

The emergence of candidates comes ahead of the January 16, 2027 presidential poll, as political parties race to meet electoral deadlines set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

INEC had fixed May 30 as the deadline for parties to conclude their primaries and resolve all disputes arising from the nomination of candidates.

The electoral body also cautioned that any political party that failed to comply with the timetable could forfeit the opportunity to field candidates in the general election.

Although several parties successfully produced candidates, the nomination process in some cases was marred by disagreements, with aggrieved aspirants and stakeholders challenging outcomes and raising concerns over the conduct of primaries.
