Murder: Wife strangles Husband while sleeping smashes his head with pestle
The Niger State Police Command has revealed that 27-year-old Fatima Dzuma has been arrested for the alleged murder of her husband, 25-year-old Baba Aliyu.
The crime, which unfolded against the backdrop of preparations for a naming ceremony for Aliyu’s child with his first wife, has exposed the dark undercurrents of a troubled marriage.
“The complexity of this case reflects the devastating potential of unresolved domestic disputes,” stated SP Wasiu Abiodun, the Police Public Relations Officer for Niger State. According to investigators, the fatal incident emerged from a tapestry of marital strife, marked by frequent quarrels and allegations of physical abuse.
Fatima, who had been Aliyu’s second wife for three years without bearing a child, reportedly chose a moment of vulnerability to carry out the act.
Following an earlier altercation, she waited until her husband fell into a deep sleep before making her fatal move.
In a haunting confession to police, Fatima detailed the methodical nature of her actions: “I used a head scarf to tie his neck. I struck him three times with a pestle, twice on the head and once on his hand.”
The grim account continued as she described concealing her husband’s body in a mat and dragging it to nearby bushland, before returning to methodically clean the crime scene.
For three days, while the community searched for Aliyu, Fatima maintained her innocence. However, the truth eventually emerged, leading to her arrest after her husband’s body was discovered near their home.
SP Abiodun confirmed that Fatima has been taken into custody, where she remains as investigations continue.
