Monarch dethrones six Chiefs over unauthorised attendance of LP campaign

On Monday, Oba AbdulFatai Oyegbemi, the Ojora of Ijora and Iganmu Kingdom, officially removed six chiefs from their positions following what he described as a breach of palace protocol.

The chiefs were reportedly present at the Labour Party’s campaign launch in Apapa, ahead of the Lagos State local government elections an appearance the Oba said was made without his prior approval.

During a specially convened palace meeting, Oba Oyegbemi expressed his displeasure, stating that the chiefs not only attended the event without his consent but also allegedly misrepresented him during the proceedings.

The deposed chiefs include Chief Taiwo Hassan (Bale of Oke Ira), Chief Saliu Biliamin (Bale of Alafia Dodoro), Chief Lateef Ojora (Bale of Alaba Oro), Chief Idris Ojora (Bale of Abule Kere), Chief Sule Balogun (Balogun of Abule Kere), and Chief Hakeem Oseni (Bale of Mosafejo Amukoko).

In an official statement from the palace, the Oba said the decision was made to preserve “order and coherence within the traditional leadership framework” of the kingdom.
