Man sentenced to 21 years in Prison for barbaric rape of three-month-old Baby
A Nasarawa State High Court has handed down a 21-year prison sentence with hard labor to Ahmadu Yaro, 27, for the horrific rape of a three-month-old baby.
The judgment, delivered by Justice Aisha Bashir-Aliyu, concludes a five-year legal battle that began with Yaro’s arraignment in May 2020.
Justice Bashir-Aliyu condemned the act as “barbaric, demonic, and a direct attack on the moral conscience of society.”
She stated that the severe sentence aims to deliver justice for the infant victim and serve as a strong deterrent to others who might contemplate similar heinous crimes.
Nasarawa State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Isaac Danladi, was present in court and lauded the ruling.
“This ruling is not only a relief to the victim’s family but a clear message that Nasarawa State has zero tolerance for any form of sexual violence, especially against children,” Danladi stated. “The judiciary has once again demonstrated its reliability and strength.”
Yaro, a resident of Adogi Village in Lafia Local Government Area, was arrested on May 27, 2020, by officials of the Nasarawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) following the brutal assault.
The infant victim, who sustained severe injuries, was initially rushed to the Dalhatu Arab Specialist Hospital (DASH) in Lafia (now Federal University Teaching Hospital).
Due to the gravity of her condition, the baby was subsequently transferred to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) in Plateau State for specialised medical care.
