JUST IN; Sack more Ministers — Senator tells President Tinubu

Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remove additional ministers who are not meeting expectations to expedite the implementation of his “Renewed Hope” agenda.

In a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja, Ndume welcomed the recent reshuffling of the federal cabinet, which included the creation of a ministry for regional development to oversee various regional commissions.

He remarked, “More needs to be done, as some ministers remain absent in action.”

This plea comes in the wake of President Tinubu’s cabinet reshuffle on Wednesday, during which six ministers were dismissed, seven new appointments were made, and ten ministers had their portfolios changed.

Ndume, a former Chief Whip of the Senate, also urged the president to convene a national economic summit aimed at developing home-grown solutions to the nation’s economic challenges.

He recommended prominent figures such as former Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, former Education Minister Oby Ezekwesili, Mansur Muktar, Akinwumi Adesina, Aruma Oteh, and Tope Fasua to lead this initiative.

He said: “This summit should be driven by these distinguished Nigerians, focusing on recommendations that are more suitable for our context than the harsh prescriptions often offered by the IMF and World Bank.

“If these recommendations are sound, I believe President Tinubu will implement them, which could significantly benefit the country.”

Additionally, the senator praised President Tinubu’s efforts to reduce the cost of governance amid economic challenges and encouraged other branches of government to follow suit.
