JUST IN; Governor reports CP to President Tinubu, requests for his immediate removal

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remove the state’s Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, following the commissioner’s absence, and that of his officers during Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day celebration in Kano.

Speaking at the Sani Abacha Stadium during the official ceremony on October 1, Governor Yusuf expressed disappointment over what he described as a deliberate withdrawal of police presence from the state’s parade.

“As you can see, on this historic and independent anniversary of Nigeria, the Commissioner of Police decided to pull out of the parade along with his own personnel,” Yusuf said in a public address.

“This is for reasons pertinent to him and pertinent to his people. Let me say that Kano State’s Chief Security Officer, on behalf of the government, are not happy with this attitude of the Commissioner of Police,” he added.

The governor described the commissioner’s absence as both unprofessional and disloyal, accusing the top police officer of prioritising personal or political interests over national duty.

“He was nowhere to be found with the other personnel. This is unprofessional. This is disloyalty to the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I now wish to take this opportunity to call on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to remove the state Commissioner of Police,” the governor declared.

Yusuf went further to stress that Kano remains one of the most peaceful states in the country and urged security agencies to focus on maintaining law and order rather than dabbling in politics.

“Today, every Nigerian is happy to celebrate the independence of this country. And we insist it, because we know Kano is peaceful. The good people of Kano are peace-loving people,” he said.

“But security agencies in Kano, in particular, shouldn’t be involving themselves in partisan politics, which will do no good to all of us in Kano State and in Nigeria, of course,” Yusuf cautioned.

He concluded with a strong condemnation of the police commissioner’s conduct, saying: “Let me say in particular that I would like to seize this opportunity as a Nigerian, as a Kano citizen, and as the Chief Security Officer of Kano State, to condemn the unethical and partisan attitude of the current Commissioner of Police in Kano State.”
