Kwankwasiyya Leader Amadu Danfulani dumps NNPP defects to APC in Kano

The leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Gobirawa Ward, Dala Local Government Area of Kano State, Alhaji Amadu Danfulani, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing dissatisfaction with the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and its leadership.

Gobirawa Ward, recognized as the largest in Nigeria with the highest number of polling units nationwide, is seen as a key battleground ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Danfulani’s defection, accompanied by thousands of followers, marks a major boost for the APC in the region.

At a ceremony held on Tuesday at the APC State Secretariat along Hotoro-Maiduguri Road, Danfulani was received by senior party officials including APC Zonal Chairman for Kano Central, Alhaji Shehu Aliyu Ungoggo, who represented the State Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas.

Also present was Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, Managing Director of the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority (HJRBDA), who played a prominent role in welcoming the new members.

Speaking at the event, Danfulani expressed deep disappointment in the Kwankwasiyya Movement and its founder, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

He criticized the NNPP-led Kano State government for implementing policies he described as “anti-people.”

“I can no longer align myself with a movement and a party that no longer serves the interests of the people,” Danfulani said.

“Joining the APC is a step towards progress, and I am ready to work with the party leadership to deliver victory at all levels in the 2027 elections.”

The defection ceremony was attended by key party figures, including the APC Youth Leader for Kano State and Northwest Zone, Alhaji Labaran Kura, as well as the APC Chairman of Dala Local Government, Alhaji Munir Haruna, and the Gobirawa Ward APC Chairman.

In his remarks, Ungoggo reiterated that the APC remains open to receiving members from opposition parties, provided they adhere to the party’s rules and constitution.

He noted that even Senator Kwankwaso would be welcome back into the APC fold, should he choose to return under the party’s terms.

“Gobirawa is a political stronghold,” Ungoggo stated.

“The decision by Alhaji Danfulani and his supporters to join the APC significantly strengthens our base as we prepare for the next general election.”

Danfulani pledged to work closely with HJRBDA MD Rabiu Suleiman Bichi and APC stakeholders to ensure the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC candidates in the 2027 polls.
