IGP Egbetokun disburses N2.17billion to families of Officers killed on duty

In a significant gesture to support the families of fallen police personnel, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has presented welfare cheques totaling ₦2,171,124,041.87 to 1,574 beneficiaries under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Schemes.

The presentation ceremony, held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, was attended by the Force Management Team, key stakeholders from the insurance industry, and families of the deceased officers.

The disbursement covers claims from policy years 2015 to 2025, including the recovery of several longstanding claims that had remained unresolved for nearly a decade.

This latest disbursement marks the 11th under IGP Egbetokun’s leadership, bringing the total amount paid to bereaved families since he assumed office to over ₦24.2 billion, benefiting 9,735 families.

Describing the initiative as a “solemn duty of remembrance and responsibility,” the IGP emphasized his administration’s continued commitment to honouring the legacy of fallen officers through meaningful support to their next-of-kin.

He reiterated that the welfare of police personnel whether serving, retired, or deceased remains a central priority.

“We are committed to building a robust, transparent, and fully digitized welfare system that ensures prompt and efficient disbursement of entitlements,” Egbetokun stated.

The IGP also commended the Force Insurance Unit for its diligence, acknowledged the insurance firms for honoring their commitments, and expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Police Affairs for its continued support.

He further extended appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his steadfast backing of police welfare initiatives.

The ceremony reaffirms the Nigeria Police Force’s evolving welfare architecture and its focus on timely, tech-driven support for officers and their families.
