Genocide Claims: President Tinubu replies Trump again
President Bola Tinubu has acknowledged Nigeria’s mounting security challenges.
According to Tinubu, Nigeria’s insecurity has lasted over two decades.
In a statement shared on his verified X account on Friday, the President spoke days after United States President Donald Trump warned of potential military action over claims of violence targeting Christians in Nigeria.
Tinubu emphasised that Nigeria would continue to assert itself on the global stage with “calm, clarity, and a strong sense of purpose.”
Addressing the nation’s security challenges, he acknowledged that terrorism has been a persistent issue but reassured citizens of the government’s resolve.
“We are indeed faced with terrorism — a challenge Nigeria has faced for almost two decades, and we will not back down. We will decisively defeat terrorism and claim victory in this battle.
“Security is non-negotiable, and we will never compromise on this principle. With unwavering courage and a steadfast commitment to the rule of law, we will prevail,” Tinubu stated.
He underlined that safeguarding national security is non-negotiable and pledged that no effort would be spared in eliminating threats to peace across the country.
The President also called on Nigeria’s international partners to continue their support, stressing that collaboration remains essential to sustaining the progress already achieved.
The remarks follow US President Donald Trump’s warning that he had instructed the Defence Department to prepare for possible military action in Nigeria if the government “continues to allow the killing of Christians.”
Earlier, Trump had designated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) in response to allegations of widespread persecution and genocide against Christians.
