PDP Gov present at Ibadan Convention dissociates self from Wike’s expulsion from Party

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has publicly distanced himself from the recent decision to expel FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and other senior members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), warning that such actions could deepen the party’s ongoing internal crisis.

In a statement released on Saturday, Fintiri insisted that he had no role in the removal of Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, and former PDP National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, describing the expulsions as “unhealthy for a party already battling internal fractures.”

He said, “I wish to categorically state that I dissociate myself from the position of expelling the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Gov. Wike, from the PDP. I believe that this decision is not in the best interest of the party, and I will not be party to any attempt that could further plunge the PDP into unending crisis.”

Fintiri highlighted that his stance is motivated by the need to preserve peace, unity, and stability within the opposition party, which has faced multiple internal disputes and setbacks since the 2023 general elections.

“As a faithful party member, my position is clear: I stand for the peace and stability of the PDP, and I will not support anything that could lead to its disintegration,” he said.

“Peace and reconciliation are the only ways forward for our great party.”

He called on PDP leaders and stakeholders to focus on healing divisions rather than widening them, urging renewed dialogue, unity, and trust-building among members.

“I am committed to supporting efforts that promote peace, stability, and progress within the PDP,” Fintiri added.

“Let me reiterate that my position is guided by the desire for peace and reconciliation, and I will continue to work towards achieving this goal.”

The statement comes amid heightened tensions at the party’s national convention, where rival factions continue to push conflicting agendas regarding the future direction of the PDP.
