Emir Sanusi insists Bichi district head installation stopped by Security Agencies will still proceed as planned

Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 16th Emir of Kano, has reiterated his unwavering support for the installation of Munir Sanusi as the new District Head of Bichi, confirming that the ceremony will proceed as scheduled at the Bichi palace.

During a solidarity visit from a Bichi delegation on Wednesday, Emir Sanusi assured that despite recent disturbances, the installation would go ahead without delay.

This comes after last Friday’s incident, when heavy security forces, including police and Department of State Services (DSS) personnel, reportedly blocked access to the Kofar Kudu Emir’s palace, preventing Emir Sanusi from accompanying the newly appointed Wambai of Kano and District Head of Bichi to take his seat.

The security action led to movement restrictions around the palace.

Emir Sanusi addressed the delegation, calling the incident a minor disruption and reiterating that the installation would continue as planned.

“This incident is only a distraction. We do not know why it happened, and those involved have not provided any explanations. However, it will not stop anything.

“I assure you that another date will be fixed for the installation, and your District Head will be brought to you peacefully.

“Inform the public to remain peaceful and prayerful. Whatever the situation, peace and prayers will guide us through to the end.

“With the respect the people of Bichi hold for Khalifa and Wambai Abubakar, there is no way a son of the Khalifa will be presented as Wambai, and they would turn their backs on him,” he said.

Hamza Sule, Chairman of Bichi Local Government, led the delegation and voiced strong support, refuting any rumors of opposition to the appointment.

He stated: “We are here to show our support and allegiance to His Royal Highness, the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II. There were rumors suggesting unrest in Bichi, but we are here to make it clear that we are fully supportive.

“We are one hundred percent behind the appointment of Munir Sanusi as District Head of Bichi. We were in Bichi, waiting for the Wambai’s arrival, when we heard these unfounded rumors. As far as we are concerned, there is no violence or opposition, only celebration.”

The Bichi Emirate was one of four new emirates established by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje following the reorganization of the old Kano Emirate. However, these newly created emirates were subsequently dissolved under the administration of Governor Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
