Group writes APC National Chairman to reconsider Ambode for 2027 Lagos Guber elections

A political support group known as the Ambode Comeback Crusaders has called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to nominate former Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode as the party’s candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election in the state.

In an open letter dated September 28, addressed to both the APC National Chairman and the Lagos State APC Chairman, the group’s convener, Abiodun Fashola, appealed for what it described as a “strategic return” of Ambode, citing his previous tenure (2015–2019) as a benchmark for impactful governance.

The letter praised Ambode’s first term as governor, highlighting achievements in infrastructure development, public transportation reform, and healthcare delivery. It also credited his financial management expertise as instrumental in cementing Lagos’s position as Nigeria’s leading economic hub.

“Ambode’s inclusive leadership style and commitment to stakeholder engagement made him a responsive and forward-thinking governor,” the group stated.

The letter argued that giving Ambode a second term would not only revitalize Lagos’s development agenda but also strengthen the APC’s public image as a party of innovation, continuity, and progress.

It added that bringing back Ambode would “propel Lagos into a new era of prosperity and innovation”

“As you deliberate on candidates for the upcoming elections, I urge you to consider the broader implications of Ambode’s second term. His proven track record and vision for the future align seamlessly with APC’s commitment to progress and development,” the letter read in part.

The letter was also copied to top political figures, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila, Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and other influential stakeholders within the APC.

Ambode, a chartered accountant and Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), succeeded Babatunde Fashola in 2015.

However, he was denied the APC’s ticket for a second term in 2019, losing the party’s primary election to Sanwo-Olu, who went on to win the governorship.
