Police arrests 204 people for not wearing face masks

Police in Niger State has arrested 216 people for not wearing face masks.

Recall most State governments have put in place measures to curb the spread of coronavirus, one of them is wearing of face masks in Niger State.

Confirming the development, Niger State Police Public Relations Officer Wasiu Abiodun said well over 216 people have been arrested in recent times and convicted for various offences such as violating of lockdown order in the State.

Twelve of the arrested people were however discharged.

According to Wasiu most of the arrests were made because most offenders were not wearing face masks. Other offences include driving during the lockdown, organising parties, transporting passengers during the lockdown, and carrying more than the prescribed numbers of passengers in a vehicle.

Th Police Public Relations Officer noted however that those convicted were given varying degrees of sanctions, including six months imprisonment or fine among other light sentences.
