Double barrel gun retrieved as Police on stop and search duty arrest notorious cult leader
Akwa Ibom State Police have arrested a man believed to be a notorious cult leader with ties to armed robbery and other crimes in Uyo, Ibesikpo Asutan, and Itu local government areas..
The suspect, identified as Kufre Aniefiok Akpan, was apprehended during a stop-and-search operation in Uyo.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Monday in Uyo. She said the suspect was apprehended during a stop-and-search operation conducted by the command.
According to her, at about 4:55 a.m. on September 6, 2025, a surveillance team stationed at Nung Oku Roundabout along Ring Road 3, Uyo, intercepted the suspect, identified as Kufre Aniefiok Akpan from Nkim village, Itam, in Itu LGA.
A search reportedly uncovered a cut-to-size double-barrel shotgun, two live cartridges, and items suspected to be charms.
John said preliminary interrogation revealed that Akpan confessed to being an active member of the “Sky Low” secret cult.
She added that investigations were ongoing to determine whether he operated alone or with accomplices, stressing that the police would ensure all members of the gang are brought to justice.
