Sunday Igboho awaits FG approval for ‘Iru Ekun’ security outfit to commence operation
Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has disclosed that his proposed security outfit, “Iru Ekun Security Network,” is awaiting approval from the Federal Government before commencing operations across the South-West.
In a statement issued on Monday in Ibadan, Oyo State, Igboho said the organisation was established to support efforts aimed at flushing out kidnappers, terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements operating in forests and rural communities in the region.
According to him, all documentation and other requirements demanded by the Federal Government had already been submitted for the registration and approval of the security outfit.
“We have submitted all the required documents for our registered security firm, ‘Iru Ekun Security Network’, and are only waiting for the Federal Government’s approval, which will be granted soon,” he said.
He added that the proposed outfit was prepared to work alongside conventional security agencies to improve safety across the South-West.
“We are absolutely ready to collaborate with the Police, Department of State Service, Nigeria Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and other relevant stakeholders in the security sector to flush out terrorists, kidnappers, bandits, and other hoodlums, who are threatening the peace and safety of our people, most especially in the rural communities,” Igboho stated.
The activist also declared support for the newly signed Executive Order 001 of 2026 introduced by Seyi Makinde to regulate associations and private groups involved in security-related services in Oyo State.
Makinde had signed the order into law on May 20, explaining that the measure was designed to ensure vigilante groups and other community-based security outfits operate within a legal and coordinated framework capable of promoting peace, order and the rule of law.
The governor noted that the directive became necessary due to increasing security threats and the growing number of groups carrying out security operations without adequate supervision or coordination.
Reacting to the development, Igboho affirmed his willingness to comply with the directive and cooperate with state authorities.
“Besides, I want to state that we are also ready to comply with the new Executive Order issued by Governor Seyi Makinde to regulate the activities of private security concerns. We are ready to support and cooperate with measures aimed at strengthening the security and peace in Oyo and other states in Yorubaland,” he said.
He also praised President Bola Tinubu for efforts to strengthen security nationwide.
“It is obvious that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is resolutely committed to tackling criminalities not only in the South-West but also in all other regions plagued by insecurity,” he added.
Igboho further stressed the importance of security to economic growth and agricultural productivity, particularly in rural areas.
“Without peace and security, healthy socioeconomic developments cannot thrive, most especially in the rural communities which remain the hub of agricultural production critical to the nation’s food security and means of livelihood for farmers,” he said.
