BREAKING: Amaechi rejects ADC primary, alleges widespread irregularities

Former Minister of Transportation and presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the outcome of the party’s presidential primary election, alleging widespread irregularities and voter disenfranchisement during the exercise.

The ADC held a nationwide direct primary on Monday to elect its candidate for the 2027 presidential election, with former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen and Amaechi emerging as the leading contenders.

However, in a statement issued on Tuesday, Amaechi distanced himself from the process, claiming the exercise was marred by electoral malpractice.

He alleged that many party members were denied the opportunity to participate in the voting process across several parts of the country.

Amaechi further claimed that the primary results currently being circulated were being “concocted,” raising doubts about the credibility of the exercise.

The former Rivers State governor insisted that the process fell short of democratic standards and failed to reflect the genuine will of party members.
