Community offers ₦10 million reward for anyone with Information on gunmen who killed 13 people
In a bold move to address the recent violence in their region, the Ezinano Community in Anambra State’s Awka South Local Government Area has pledged a ₦10 million bounty for information leading to the capture of those responsible for the tragic killings in Nibo two weeks ago.
During the community’s vibrant ‘Onwa Asaa festival,’ an armed group unleashed chaos, resulting in the loss of at least 13 lives—a devastating act now described by authorities as stemming from “cult-related clashes.”
Some of the victims were residents of Ezinano, which borders Nibo, intensifying the urgency of the situation.
This announcement came on Friday during the community’s Second Edition of “Ezinano Day,” a festive occasion dedicated to celebrating local culture and heritage.
Community leader Jeff Nweke spoke passionately against the violence, pledging to combat cultism and ensure that those responsible face justice.
Nweke stated, “We will not stand for violence or cultism in Ezinano. We are determined to seek justice and we encourage anyone with information to step forward.”
He emphasised that the ₦10 million reward is aimed at incentivizing community members to assist in the quest for justice.
In addition to addressing security concerns, Nweke launched a remarkable ₦100 million empowerment fund aimed at supporting rural women, starting with an initial investment of ₦50 million.
He underscored the significance of empowering women as a means to foster economic growth and development within the community.
“Empowering women is essential for community advancement,” Nweke noted, emphasizing that when women thrive, the entire community flourishes.
Moreover, he announced his plans to transition leadership by December, marking a new chapter for the community. The celebration included dignitaries, traditional masquerade dances, and cultural performances, reinforcing the community’s rich heritage amid these challenging times.
