BREAKING; President Tinubu approves lifetime salary for Senior Officers
A new policy that grants lifetime salary benefits to senior officers retiring from the ranks of Deputy Controller, Comptroller, or Commandant-General and above, has been announced by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
Approved by President Bola Tinubu, the policy was revealed by the minister at the 2025 Ministerial Retreat.
A statement from the Federal Fire Service noted that Dr. Tunji-Ojo thanked the President for his support, stating that all agencies under the ministry are benefiting from the “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
During the retreat, Tunji-Ojo also detailed other key achievements, including the promotion of over 50,000 officers in the last two years, which cleared a long-standing backlog.
He added that future promotions will be based on a new system focused on performance and capacity.
Other initiatives highlighted by the minister include:
The development of new training manuals.
The ongoing construction of a world-class Fire Academy designed to rival international institutions like the Arizona Fire Academy.
A renewed commitment to supporting officer mental health.
A directive for the Federal Fire Service to seek private sector partnerships to improve service delivery and modernize firefighting operations in Nigeria.
