JUST IN: Chief Judge faces investigation over alleged age falsification
The Rivers State House of Assembly has vowed to investigate allegations of age falsification against the Chief Justice of the State, Hon. Justice Simeon Amadi.
The decision was made during the Assembly’s 135th plenary in Port Harcourt on Thursday, with lawmakers resolving to engage the Department of State Services (DSS) to carry out a thorough inquiry into the matter.
The issue dominated the plenary after House Leader, Hon. Major Jack, presented documents to the Speaker, triggering a heated discussion on the validity of Justice Amadi’s age in service.
Deputy Speaker Hon. Dumle Maol was the first to raise the serious allegation, claiming that documents in his possession indicated that the Chief Justice had falsified his age.
“These documents before me show that the Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Amadi, falsified his age in service. This is a very serious accusation, and I hope the House will take legislative notice,” Maol stated.
Following a detailed debate, the Assembly passed a motion to involve the DSS in the investigation, with the aim of clarifying the allegations.
The House also resolved to write to the DSS Director, urging the agency to investigate and report back with its findings.
In his remarks, Speaker of the Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, emphasised that the matter at hand was concerning the alleged age falsification of Justice Amadi.
He underscored that the documents only suggested the possibility of age manipulation, necessitating a formal investigation to determine the facts.
