LG Chairman appoints 100 new special assistants, in addition to initial 130, totalling 230
Chijioke Ihunwo, the chairman of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area (LGA) in Rivers State, has appointed 100 additional Special Assistants to support his administration’s efforts.
The announcement was made on Saturday via a post on X, where Ihunwo expressed his commitment to empowering his team to better serve the community.
“I have appointed an additional one hundred persons as Special Assistants to help me achieve my plans for my people,” Ihunwo wrote in the post.
Among the new appointees are Augustina Élodi, Obi Chima, Abi Chinazor Clara, Ginikachukwu Onyeagusi, Chigozie Emmanuel Esinulo, Sunday Confidence Onyinyechi, and Nworgu Namdi Emmanuel, among others.
This latest appointment comes shortly after the LGA chairman named 130 new Special Advisers earlier in the month, continuing his efforts to strengthen his leadership team.
“I have appointed the following persons as my Special Assistants,” Ihunwo announced at the time, urging them to serve with diligence and integrity in the interest of Obio-Akpor.
The chairman’s focus on expanding his leadership circle is not new; in July 2024, when Ihunwo was still the caretaker committee chairman, he had already appointed 100 Special Assistants.
A strong ally of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Ihunwo’s political moves have attracted significant attention.
Notably, in October 2024, he removed the name of former Governor Nyesom Wike from the administrative block of the council secretariat, signaling his shift in loyalty.
With these new appointments, Ihunwo is positioning himself for continued governance in Obio-Akpor as he pushes forward with his plans for the local community.
