Your Refinery was to make petrol price reduce – Senator slams Dangote over recent announcement
Despite popular expectations that the Dangote Refinery would help cut expenses, Senator Shehu Sani has expressed his unhappiness over the growing price of gasoline.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, the former lawmaker expressed disbelief, stating, “The expectation was that Dangote Refinery will crash the price of petrol; the news that it’s increasing is baffling.”
His comments come in the wake of an announcement by Dangote Petroleum Refinery revealing a price hike for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
The refinery has raised the price to N955 per litre for purchases between 2 and 4.99 million litres, and N950 per litre for bulk buyers purchasing 5 million litres or more.
This marks a 6.17% increase, or N55.5 per litre, from the discounted rate of N899.50 per litre offered during the December 2024 holiday period.
As a result, retail prices have also surged, with petrol now selling for between N1,030 and N1,050 per litre at various stations.
The price hike has ignited public outrage, particularly among Nigerians who had hoped the refinery would provide some relief by reducing fuel costs and alleviating the financial strain on citizens.
