We are open to possibilities; Another PDP Governor fuels defection rumours

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State described himself on Thursday as a politician who remains open to possibilities.

He made the remarks while responding to questions from journalists after presenting the state’s 2026 budget to the House of Assembly.

While Fintiri neither confirmed nor dismissed speculation about a potential defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), his comments have left room for further conjecture about his political intentions.

Asked for his reaction to the street talk about a defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and when he would likely take such step, Fintiri said, “I am a grassroots politician. What will happen, when it happens, then you can judge me.”

He stressed that for now, he could not say much, he explained, “I am still trying to organise the PDP which is my party and which gave me the platform to be here.”

Analyts believe the governor’s response is short of an outright rejection of the speculation of his defection to the APC in Adamawa State, however, the lack of definiteness in his remark suggests to observers that there may be substance in the long held public impression that he would soon become one of the many governors who have defected to the APC.
