LASTMA officer, two others killed as truck rams into motorcyclists in Lagos

A routine traffic operation turned fatal on Tuesday morning when a Dangote long truck rammed into commercial motorcyclists at the busy Badagry Roundabout, leaving three people dead, including an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.

The crash occurred at about 9:46 a.m. along the Badagry Motorway as the truck was reportedly heading from Lagos toward the Seme border axis.

Witnesses at the scene said the articulated vehicle lost control near the roundabout before veering into two motorcycles positioned along the corridor.

The impact crushed the motorcycles and killed three persons instantly, among them a LASTMA officer who was said to be on active duty at the time of the incident.

The accident triggered panic and gridlock in the area as commuters and traders gathered around the scene.

Emergency responders, including officials of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps, the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Road Safety Corps and LASTMA, quickly moved in to secure the area, manage traffic and prevent further casualties.

The bodies of the victims were later evacuated, while security operatives cordoned off the scene to ease congestion and allow for preliminary assessments.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities had yet to issue an official statement detailing the cause of the crash.
