One dead as two communities clash over land
At least one person has been confirmed dead following a clash between Oghior and Ukpiovwin communities in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State over a land dispute.
The dead man identified as Mr. Oghiorume Krebe was killed by suspected youths of the Ukpiovwin Community who came to attack the Oghior Community at about 2 pm on Wednesday.
Former Vice-President of Oghior Community, Mr. Frederick Ojirhe who confirmed the attack and death of Mr. Krebe said “it was Ukpiovwin who encroached into their land by erecting a building in Oghior land. When we questioned them on why they encroached our land it resulted in a free for all fight.
It took the intervention of leaders from both communities to calm the enraged youths who already inflicted injuries on themselves.
Not satisfied by the earlier brawl, youths of Ukpiovwin in their numbers invaded the Oghior Community at about 2 pm, killed Mr. Oghiorume Krebe and inflicted life-threatening injuries on many others.
When contacted, Mr. Joseph Mughele, an indigene of Ukpiovwin denied the attack on the Oghior Community, saying it was Oghior people that attacked a member of their community who was developing his land.
According to him: “After the attack, President General of Oghior community and some of his executives came to Ukpiovwin community for settlement, after the truce by both communities, the youth leader of Ukpiovwin community volunteered to take them back to Oghior, on getting to Oghior he was attacked and left with life-threatening injuries. The youths on seeing their leader in a coma mobilized for reprisal attacks.
