UPDATED; Oborevwori,ex-Gov Okowa, House Speaker, Lawmakers PDP Chairman defect to APC
The entire structure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State has collapsed, with the recent defection of major members to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a significant political shift in the state.
This major development followed an enlarged stakeholders’ meeting held in Asaba on Wednesday, where key party figures endorsed the transition.
Speaking at a press conference, the Delta State Commissioner for Information, Charles Aniagwu, alongside Senator James Manager, a founding member of the PDP, confirmed that Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected to formally welcome Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other PDP members into the APC fold in Asaba on Monday.
Governor Oborevwori, who secured his mandate under the PDP in the 2023 elections, has now been received into the APC by top officials of the ruling party.
Political analysts have described the move as a major realignment likely to reshape Delta State’s political dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
