Two security operatives sabotaging Military operations against terrorism arrested by Defence Headqtrs

The Defence Headquarters has revealed the arrest of two security personnel accused of supporting terrorist activities in Nigeria’s North-East.

The individuals, identified as members of the hybrid forces working alongside the military, were detained during a coordinated operation between April 26 and 29 in Bama, Kukawa, and Madagali local government areas of Borno and Adamawa states.

Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Media Operations, disclosed that the two were among four logistics suppliers apprehended by troops.

He described their actions as a “betrayal” of military trust and urged commanders to sensitise their personnel against collusion with terrorist groups.

“In a well-planned operation, troops intercepted four terrorist logistics suppliers—two of whom turned out to be members of the hybrid forces,” Kangye said.

“Such acts are serious breaches that could undermine our operational success.”

He further noted that the military, in collaboration with hybrid forces, carried out additional operations including raids, clearance missions, and fighting patrols in Gwoza, Dikwa, Bama, Chibok, Gujba, Geidam, and Yunusari LGAs.

These missions led to the killing of several terrorists, the rescue of six kidnapped victims, and the recovery of arms, ammunition, motorcycles, and bicycles.

In a separate operation in the South-South region, troops also recorded major gains in the fight against oil theft and illegal refining in the Niger Delta.

According to Kangye, over 86,000 litres of stolen crude oil, 72,000 litres of illegally refined diesel, and 2,600 litres of petrol were recovered.

Troops also destroyed dozens of illegal refining sites and seized equipment including boats, storage tanks, tricycles, mobile phones, and seven vehicles.
