Trump’s threat is an affront to Nigeria – Popular Cleric tells President Tinubu what to do
Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi on Sunday called on President Bola Tinubu to respond firmly to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat of military action against Nigeria.
Posting on his verified Facebook page, Gumi described Trump’s warning as an affront to Nigeria’s sovereignty and demanded an immediate diplomatic reply.
“For Trump to threaten a sovereign country with military attack is a profound disrespect to our authority, but we can rise above it,” he wrote.
Gumi urged the federal government to summon the U.S. ambassador and insist on a retraction, adding that failure to secure one should prompt tougher measures.
“President Tinubu should summon the US ambassador; they either retract their threats or we sever diplomatic ties with this irresponsible regime,” he said.
He also called for Nigeria to broaden its international partnerships beyond the United States, stressing alternatives for growth and security.
“There are lots of other options for our economic expansion and military alliance,” Gumi added.
