Tragedy as Police Inspector shoots himself to death
A police inspector in Igbesa, Ogun State, Ajele Oloyede, has reportedly shot himself dead at a ceramics company where he was stationed as part of the security detail.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Thursday.
Confirming the incident, the state police public relations officer, Omolola Odutola, she disclosed that an officer from Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos, Tolorunloju Stephen, was the one who discovered the incident following his return from Ikeja around 1:20 p.m.
Stephen is said to have found Oloyede with his head resting on a table inside the security office.
When Stephen inquired about his condition, Oloyede assured him that he was fine.
According to Odutola, Stephen then placed his bag and pistol on the table before stepping into the restroom.
Shortly after, a gunshot was heard.
Odutola stated that Stephen later discovered Oloyede lying in a pool of blood.
Odutola said, “With the help of private security personnel, the wounded officer was immediately taken to Ota General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead by the doctor on duty.
“Police officers visited the scene, and the deceased’s pistol was recovered. His body has been deposited at Ota General Hospital for autopsy, while we have begun notifying his family.”
She revealed that the case would be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran for further investigation.
