Three vehicles, other properties burnt as filling Station goes up in flames
A major fire outbreak swept through a filling station in the Kara area of Kishi, Irepo Local Government Area of Oyo State, destroying three vehicles and other valuable property.
The vehicles involved were identified as a Volvo truck with registration number AGG Lagos 731 GB, a Golf 3 with registration number KUT 403 AP, and an empty DAF truck bearing number plate GB0 14 AB.
The incident was confirmed in a statement by the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Fire Services Agency, Moroof Akinwande, who said the agency received an alert from a resident, identified as Mr Yusuf.
He said a team of firefighters led by Assistant Fire Superintendent Akande E. O. was immediately dispatched to the scene to contain the blaze.
“Upon arrival, it was a powerhouse: a Volvo truck with reg. no. AGG Lagos 731 GB; a Golf 3 with reg. no. KUT 403 AP; and an empty DAF truck with reg. no. GB0 14 AB engulfed by fire.
“The firemen swiftly got into action and prevented the fire from spreading to the main filling station and nearby buildings.
“No casualties was recorded. Property worth millions of naira were destroyed. Fire service was able to save the filling station, nearby buildings and property from imminent fire.
“The unfortunate incident was as a result of an explosion that occurred in the powerhouse, ignited to nearby combustible materials, and set the property on fire,” Akinwande confirmed.
Following the incident, he advised filling station operators across the state to strictly observe fire safety standards. He also emphasised the importance of keeping fire extinguishers in commercial premises and homes to ensure that fires can be tackled quickly before they escalate.
