Three persons sentenced to life imprisonment for possession of firearms

An Osun High Court, sitting in Ile-Ife, has sentenced Adeoti Seun, 27, Salami Fatai, 25, and Tope Adesiyan, 25, to life imprisonment for criminal conspiracy, possession of firearms and armed robbery.

The Prosecution Counsel, Omotayo Babalola, told the court on Friday that the defendants on Nov. 3, 2022 around 1:30 am at Alausa Area, Edunabon, conspired among themselves to commit armed robbery.

Babalola said that the act contravened section 6(b) and punishable under section 1(1)(a)of the Robbery & Firearms (Special Provision) Act Cap R11, Laws of the Federation, 2004.

She said that the defendants armed themselves with guns and other dangerous weapons and robbed one Titus Oyeniran of N5 million, which was transferred from his Zenith Bank account into Sterling Bank, five different handsets and his Bajaj Boxer Motorcycle.

According to her, the defendants also robbed one Dacan Innocent of of N565,000 and one Infinx handset.

Babalola also said that the offence was contrary to and punishable under section 1(1)(2)(a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act Cap R11 Vol. 14, Laws of the Federation, 2004.

Earlier, Modupe Olufemi, O.O. Ogunleye, and Tosin Alawode, Counsels for the three defendants, respectively, pleaded with the court “to temper justice with mercy”.

Delivering the judgement, the Presiding Judge, Justice Babafemi Akande, said that the defendants were found guilty of the offences punishable by the law.

Akande said that the offences were contrary to sections 6(b) and punishable under section 1(1)(2)(a)(b)of the Robbery & Firearms (Special Provision) Act Cap R11, Laws of the Federation, 2004.

He, thereafter, sentenced the trio
to life imprisonment, without an option of fine. (NAN)
