Governor to establish special court for kidnappers, cultists to expedite prosecution of Suspects

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has announced plans to establish a special court to expedite the prosecution of suspected kidnappers and cultists, warning that those convicted would face the full weight of the law.

The governor made the declaration on Thursday during the parade of suspected kidnappers and cultists by the Edo State Police Command.

Okpebholo said his administration was determined to stamp out kidnapping and cult-related violence across the state, stressing that criminal elements would no longer find Edo a safe haven.

According to him, the proposed special court would be operational within weeks and would ensure speedy trials for suspects arrested for kidnapping and cultism.

“So I want to appeal to our people to stay away from cultism and stay away from kidnapping because it will take you nowhere.

“It is cheaper for you to maintain your standard than to go into kidnapping and cultism because when you kidnap what you have before, you will lose it and you will lose your life.

“Now we are going to set up a special court to try kidnappers and cultists. Within two or three weeks, we are done with it, and I will sign your execution warrant.

“I will take you to the roundabout, that is the Ring Road so that the whole people will see you. I will not have any regrets about it. So please don’t take my simplicity for granted,” the governor said.

He commended the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies operating in the state for their efforts in combating crime and maintaining public safety.

The governor also issued a stern warning to individuals and groups allegedly sponsoring kidnapping and cult activities, urging them to desist or face arrest and prosecution.

Reaffirming his administration’s resolve to tackle insecurity, Okpebholo declared that Edo would remain hostile territory for kidnappers and cultists.

“In Edo state, kidnappers and cultists will not settle here. My message to them is that whoever has such a mind for kidnapping should stop it. They cannot go scot-free.

“No crime that will be committed in Edo state that such a person will not be arrested. Whoever is supporting you or aiding you to do it, please you have to stop because we are ready for you,” he added.
