This coalition Party will collapse in September – Only House of Rep member in ADC

Leke Abejide, the sole House of Representatives member elected on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform, has predicted that the opposition coalition built around his party will collapse by September.

Appearing on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, Abejide, who represents the Yagba East/Yagba West/Mopamuro Federal Constituency of Kogi State, pointed to the coalition’s failure to win a single seat in the recent August 16 by-elections as a sign of its impending collapse.

“The coalition collapsed last Saturday; across the country, they could not even win one seat. That was the beginning of the end.

By early next month, the coalition will collapse completely,” he stated.

Abejide also dismissed the group’s attempts to “hijack” the ADC, asserting that he remains the “landlord” of the party.

He emphasized his long-standing loyalty, noting, “I have never defected to a big party. I used the ADC to contest all my elections and also brought others into both the National Assembly and state assembly.”

He argued that the coalition’s key figures have no real ties to the ADC, highlighting that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi were never members.

He also pointed out that while former Senate President David Mark and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola have joined the party, neither holds a leadership position.

The coalition, which includes prominent figures like former governors Nasir El-Rufai and Rotimi Amaechi, had adopted the ADC in July as its political platform for the 2027 general elections.

Mark was named interim chairman, and Aregbesola was appointed national secretary.

Abejide had previously criticized the group as a gathering of “selfish politicians” and called their plan to use the ADC for 2027 a “daydream.”
