Suspect charged allegedly for r3ping his 64-year-old Grandmother to death
A magistrate court in Ondo State has ordered the remand of a carpenter, Ahmed Toheed, for the alleged rape and murder of his 64-year-old grandmother, Mulikat Sanni.
Toheed, an artisan from Ore, Odigbo Local Council Area of the state, allegedly committed the heinous acts on September 29, 2025, around 10:00 pm, at Onisere Street in Ore.
Police prosecutor Augustine Omhenimhen informed the court that the defendant had previously accused his grandmother of witchcraft as well as being responsible for his misfortunes.
Omhenimhen stressed that Toheed capitalised on the accusations to strangle the victim and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.
The charge sheet detailed the accusations, reading in part: “That you, Ahmed Toheed ‘m’, on September 29, 2025, at about 10 p.m., at Onisere Street, Ore, in the Ondo State Magisterial District, did unlawfully strangle one Mulikat Sanni ‘f’, aged 64 years, to death. And did unlawfully have carnal knowledge of her, thereby committing offences contrary to and punishable under Sections 319 and 358 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.”
Given the capital nature of the offences, the court could not take the defendant’s plea.
The prosecutor requested the court to remand Toheed while awaiting advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP.
Defence counsel Benjamin Adeyanju requested an adjournment to file a counter-affidavit.
Presiding Magistrate Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi subsequently ordered the defendant’s remand at the State CID and adjourned the matter until October 13, 2025, for further hearing
