Student dies after Teacher beats him 162 strokes of cane

A student at Obada Idi-Emi High School in the Imeko Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State, known as Ariyo, has tragically died following an alleged severe punishment from a teacher.

Reports indicate that the teacher struck him 162 times with a cane after he jokingly commented that a dustbin used in the classroom was purchased with student funds.

Activist Adetoun shared details of the incident on Instagram, stating that the teacher became upset after Ariyo’s remark and subsequently reported him to the principal, who ordered the punishment.

During the caning, Ariyo collapsed and was not promptly taken to a hospital, leading to his death.

A senior police officer, who requested to remain unnamed, confirmed the incident, stating it had caused unrest in the community but that police intervention helped stabilize the situation.
