Stray bullet kills 32-year-old during Police operation
A tragic incident unfolded in the Gengere area of Ketu, Lagos, when 32-year-old Zeyanu Muhammed was fatally struck by a stray bullet during a police operation on Thursday afternoon.
The incident, which occurred around 3:50 p.m., took place as a tactical unit from the Area ‘H’ Command in Ogudu, under the leadership of ASP Friday Babep, raided the area in search of suspected armed robbers.
The operation encountered strong resistance from local thugs, believed to have aided the suspects in evading capture. Amid the chaos, a gunshot was fired, and a stray bullet struck Muhammed in the shoulder, causing fatal injuries.
Authorities swiftly responded to the scene, evacuating Muhammed’s body to a public morgue for an autopsy.
In the wake of the incident, additional patrol units were deployed to restore order, while the officers involved in the operation have been detained pending an internal investigation.
The Lagos State Police Command has assured that efforts are underway to contact Muhammed’s family and engage with the local Hausa community to prevent further tensions.
A manhunt has also been launched to apprehend those responsible for obstructing the police operation.
