Six Police officers involved in misconduct, identified arrested, to face disciplinary actions
The Imo State Police Command has launched an investigation into the alleged assault of a young man in Nduhobokwe, Uzoagba, located in Ikeduru Local Government Area, following the circulation of a viral video showing police personnel reportedly attacking the victim.
The command said a preliminary review of the footage led to the identification of six officers allegedly involved in the incident. They are Inspector Ugochukwu Ibe, Inspector Nwachi Chimezie, Sergeant Ugoezuhu Austin, Corporal Michael Obi, Corporal Ebuka Onwuegbu and Corporal Amos Sunny.
In response to the development, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Audu Garba Bosso, ordered a comprehensive probe to determine the circumstances surrounding the officers’ conduct and establish accountability.
Police authorities confirmed that the six officers have been taken into custody while disciplinary proceedings have commenced in accordance with the regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.
The command, in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Henry Okoye, condemned the conduct captured in the video, stressing that it does not reflect the standards expected of police personnel.
According to the statement, the actions of the officers are “inconsistent with the values, ethics and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force.”
The police further reiterated their commitment to a zero-tolerance policy on misconduct, unprofessional behaviour and violations of citizens’ rights, assuring the public that the case would be handled with transparency and diligence.
“The outcome of the investigation and disciplinary process will be communicated to the public in due course,” the statement added.
