Investigation commences as Police Operatives arrest suspected Army deserter

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have taken custody of a suspected deserter from the Nigerian Army following his arrest by police operatives during a raid in Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The development was disclosed by security and counter-insurgency analyst Zagazola Makama in a post on his X handle on Friday, citing intelligence sources.

According to the report, the suspect, identified as Yakubu Bilal, was apprehended by operatives of the Keystone Police Division during a raid operation carried out in Pankshin on Wednesday.

Following his arrest, personnel of Sector 8, Operation Enduring Peace, reportedly visited the police station and assumed custody of the suspect for further military investigation.

Preliminary findings indicated that Bilal allegedly absconded from his unit, the 24 Task Force Brigade, in 2024 and had remained absent without official authorisation since then.

Sources said military authorities have established contact with the suspect’s parent unit to commence the necessary administrative and disciplinary procedures.

The suspect is currently being detained at the Headquarters of Sector 8, Operation Enduring Peace, in Mangu, Plateau State, where investigations are ongoing.
