In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Udeme Edet, the command said the incident occurred in the early hours of March 13, 2026, when suspected armed herders invaded cashew plantations in the Asaba, Ojantele and Okpette communities while farmers were working.

Police said a joint security team comprising operatives of the police, military personnel and local youths was immediately deployed to surrounding forests to begin search and rescue operations and track the attackers.
