Seyi Tinubu has right to contest for Governorship election – Presidential aide

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, has addressed the growing debate surrounding the political ambitions of the President’s son, Seyi Tinubu.

Speaking on the Clarity Zone podcast hosted by media personality Chinedu Ani, popularly known as Nedu Wazobia, Bwala emphasized that Seyi Tinubu has every right, like any Nigerian citizen, to pursue a gubernatorial position.

Bwala stated that Seyi’s status as the President’s son does not disqualify him from contesting in any election, including for the Lagos State governorship, as long as he meets the constitutional requirements.

“If Seyi Tinubu’s father is the president, what stops him from running for Lagos State governor? He can even challenge his father in an election if he wants to,” Bwala said.

He went on to commend Seyi Tinubu’s character, describing him as “humble and unassuming,” and credited him with helping numerous young Nigerians gain access to government opportunities often across party lines.

According to Bwala, Seyi has even been criticized for appointing individuals with ties to opposition groups, including supporters of the Obidient movement, which demonstrates his lack of political bias.

When asked about his personal view of Seyi, Bwala praised his composure and approach to public discourse.

“You will never see him attacking people on social media. He has built relationships even with critics of this government,” he noted.
Bwala also drew a distinction between Seyi and children of past Nigerian leaders, saying Seyi has remained free from scandal and public controversy.

“Until you experience somebody, don’t have an opinion of them,” he concluded.
