Senator set to leave APC, says he’s now “moved by spirit of God” to choose Party to join

Former Senator for Adamawa North, Elisha Abbo, has announced that he spent 31 days fasting and praying to seek divine guidance on his future in politics.

In a post on X on Friday, Abbo, who left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2020, reflected on his previous political decisions.

He stated that his move to the APC was made without spiritual consultation. “In 2020, I left PDP for APC without praying and asking God’s direction on which party to join,” he wrote.

“I left for tangible reasons and raw instincts and joined APC out of human judgment and to flow with the tide.”

Now, however, he is seeking a different approach as he plans to leave the APC.

“This time around, I undertook 31 days of fasting and prayers, seeking direction among other things, I asked God to do for me,” he said.

Abbo indicated that he will release a “tentative official statement” in a few weeks, after consulting with his constituents.

He added, “I am no longer moved by sight, sweet words, emotions or just mere instincts. I am now moved by the spirit of God and calm, spirited negotiations.”

Abbo was first elected to the Senate in 2019 under the PDP platform.

He was re-elected in 2023 with the APC, but in October, an appeal court removed him from office and declared Amos Yohanna of the PDP as the winner.
