Senator Natasha threatens NASS Clerk over attempt to block her resumption on Monday

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has threatened legal action against the Clerk of the National Assembly, Kamorudeen Ogunlana, should she be barred from resuming her legislative duties on Monday, September 15, 2025.

In a letter dated September 10 and signed by her lawyer, Chief Michael Numa (SAN), the senator representing Kogi Central warned that continued refusal to allow her return would trigger legal consequences.

According to the letter, the National Assembly’s failure to obey a standing court order constitutes a violation of the Nigerian Constitution and the Code of Conduct for Public Officers.

“Be advised that failure to comply by Monday, September 15, 2025, will compel us to initiate legal proceedings against you, both in your personal and official capacities,” the letter stated.

Numa further warned that the senator’s legal team is prepared to pursue contempt charges, disciplinary sanctions, and actions holding the Clerk responsible for any unrest resulting from the standoff.

He urged Ogunlana to reverse what he described as an “untenable stance” and to immediately comply with judicial directives.

The dispute stems from the National Assembly’s insistence that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension remains valid, citing a pending appeal in court even though the senator has completed the six-month disciplinary action imposed on her earlier.
