Russia reacts to Donald Trump’s Military Threat over alleged Christians killings in Nigeria
Russia says it is closely observing developments following US President Donald Trump’s remarks on possible military action in Nigeria.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova made the statement on Friday during a press briefing in Moscow, emphasising the need for all parties to adhere to international law and act responsibly in matters of global security.
“We are closely monitoring this issue and call on all parties involved to strictly comply with international legal norms,” Zakharova said.
On November 1, Trump announced that he had instructed the Pentagon to prepare options for potential military measures against terrorist groups in Nigeria, citing the protection of Christian communities as a key concern.
When asked about Kazakhstan joining the Abraham Accords, Zakharova said Moscow has no immediate comment. Kazakhstan confirmed its participation on Friday, following a phone call between President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which was held in the presence of Trump.
Zakharova also expressed concern over reports of Israeli violations of ceasefire agreements along the Lebanese border, stating that Moscow is in contact with both Israeli and Lebanese authorities to prevent escalation.
“We convey to all parties involved our firm stance on the need to avoid actions that may trigger an escalation of violence and another round of armed conflict,” she said, reaffirming Russia’s commitment to working with regional and international partners to maintain peace and stability in Lebanon and the wider Middle East.
