REVEALED; President Tinubu, 97 Senators, back creation of new State

Delta North Senator Ned Nwoko has revealed that at least 97 senators and President Bola Tinubu are in support of the creation of Anioma State.

Speaking over the weekend at the Izu Anioma Towns Union event in Abuja, where the first Anioma Cultural Festival (Anioma Day) was launched, Nwoko said the initiative has gained momentum due to “overwhelming legislative support and regional consensus.”

According to him, the proposed bill originally introduced two years ago seeks to establish Anioma State from nine local government areas of Delta North, including four in Aniocha and Oshimili, two in Ika, and three in Ndokwa.

He added that some neighbouring communities, such as Igbanke, have also expressed interest in joining the new state.

The senator described the growing backing for the proposal as “unprecedented in Nigeria’s state creation history.”

“Only one state will be created in Nigeria, and that one state will be Anioma,” Nwoko declared.

He explained that both the Senate and House Committees on Constitutional Amendment, which have representatives from all states, have agreed that the South-East should receive a sixth state to ensure regional equity.

Nwoko emphasised that Anioma remains the “strongest and most viable option” before the committees, noting that the effort has the endorsement of Senate President Godswill Akpabio and President Tinubu, who has “pledged his full support once constitutional requirements are met.”

“We have done our homework. A lot of lobbying, contacts, and consultations are ongoing. Nothing is being left undone,” he stated.
